As we say goodbye to Summer, we turn the corner and welcome in Autumn. This is a favorite season of ours. We love the excitement of a new school year that begins with crisp cool mornings and evenings cheering on the high school football team. It’s sweater and boots weather accented with a pumpkin spice latte. Our landscape never looks better than during these transitional months when the leaves burst with color. It’s a season of gathering and giving thanks, and as we take that step forward, let’s catch you up on all the latest news.

The Audrey’s Open House was a Spectacular Event!
The Audrey’s Open House event was a tremendous success and was held Monday August 12. The weather cooperated this year as customers turned out in droves in the beautiful early morning sunshine at the Audrey’s cash and carry warehouse. This year’s annual day-long event was celebrated with the largest sale in our history for the Open House.  Customers took advantage of the sale that featured over 1200 discounted items.

The Open House was also a special event this year because it fell on Ken Mull’s birthday! Customers gave their birthday wishes as they signed a huge card for Ken and eventually sang happy birthday to him on this grand occasion. Ken and Audrey Mull started having the event in August 2002 and have been welcoming customers ever since with great appreciation for their business.

The Audrey's team worked extremely hard in preparing for this event, and the preparation paid off for our valuable customers as they enjoyed the hospitality, great food, wonderful door prizes, and phenomenal shopping. Just a personal way for the Audrey’s team to say thank you to our loyal customers!
Retailer Spotlight
Carolina Pottery has been a favorite home store for over three decades providing their customers with products to enhance their indoor and outdoor living experiences. Company founder Dick Fleming owned a Howard Johnson's hotel franchise off of I-95 in Smithfield, NC. During some of their travels he and his wife Jean came across several "pottery concept" stores and liked the idea. He decided to open a similar store in Smithfield to help be an attraction and draw in more customers for his hotel business. Carolina Pottery was opened in 1983 in a 50,000 sq. ft. building on I-95 in Smithfield, NC.

It was an immediate success and became a destination for interstate travelers in North Carolina. As the business grew over the years, Carolina Pottery opened additional stores and currently has 4 locations, in Smithfield, NC, Columbia, SC, Augusta, GA, and Myrtle Beach, SC. Carolina Pottery prides themselves as being a one stop shopping experience second to none, and the company is still a family owned and operated business.
The stores offer a tremendous assortment of merchandise, anything needed to decorate your home both indoor and out, including rugs, lamps, accent furniture, wall art, mirrors, home accents, housewares, dinnerware, outdoor furniture, pots, planters, fountains, statuaries, garden flags, and tons of outdoor accessories.  They also offer an incredible assortment of seasonal merchandise and an extensive floral department with on-staff floral designers. An active calendar of events, including mother’s morning out, ladies’ night out, wreath making classes and various other workshops throughout the year allow them to consistently connect with their customers.

Audrey’s supplies Carolina Pottery with product categories which include home decor, seasonal, floral and garden.  “We are always able to find some really unique items at Audrey's at very affordable prices”, says Jean Harris of Carolina Pottery, “They stay on trend, yet still maintain their own looks. Plus, they are wonderful people to work with!!”  We are truly grateful to be a valuable partner with Carolina Pottery and their great team, and we wish them continued success in the future.
The Season of Autumn
  • In America and Canada, autumn is also known as fall. The derivation of the term fall can be traced to multiple origins such as Old Germanic, Old Norse, and Old English languages.
  • The weather also begins to get colder and many plants stop making food. Autumn is the time when deciduous trees shed their leaves.
  • The leaves change from green to red, orange, yellow or brown before falling. In addition, there is less sunlight because the days are shorter.
  • The season of autumn is also called the aurora season because clear evening skies make for good stargazing.
  • The Autumnal Equinox is the two times of the year when day and night are of same length. It happens when the sun is exactly above the equator.
  • The full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox is called the Harvest Moon. It was believed to be vital for an abundant harvest. Common harvests are pumpkins, apples and corn.
  • The season of autumn is largely associated with harvest time. In western cultures, various harvest festivals are celebrated during fall. One of these is the Thanksgiving holiday that is widely celebrated in the United States and Canada. The Jewish Sukkot holiday is also celebrated during autumn. Moreover, Chinese people celebrate the lunar Mid-autumn Festival.
  • In poetry, autumn is often associated with melancholia. Poets such as William Butler Yeats, Paul Verlaine, and John Keats symbolically represent the season of autumn as bountiful and depicting maturity.
  • In the Northern Hemisphere, the Christian religious holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day are observed during autumn.
